First sailing trip with Great Shearwater

Hi from Marocco!
On Tuesday (Nov 22) the strong wind and rain were finally over. With one storm past us and another one coming a few days later, it became clear that we should either leave that same day, or wait for another week. Preparations were made quickly: buying food, selecting the correct navigational charts, cleaning up inside, getting the ship ready to sail. And off we went!
The swell (long waves, remnants of waves created earlier by the wind) had decreased immensely compared to the days before, but was still something to get used to. I did not manage to do so yet. The first few hours I was fine, but from the moment I got up for my first watch till the moment we entered our next harbour 18 hours later I've been puking my guts out.
The plan was to sail to Mohammedia, but early in the morning on Wednesday we changed course to Asilah, the nearest harbour at that point. Asilah is described in the pilot (a book with information about harbours) as a tricky harbour to enter with swell or strong winds from the west. We took the chance and were lucky to arrive before the heavy weather.
Asilah is a small port, mainly for a fleet of small fishing boats. It is not a port of entry, so we could not get our passports stamped. Getting our stamps turned into quite an adventure, but more about that later!

Pas na een uur of 48 gaat je lichaam wennen aan golfslag en dat soort dingen, dus die 18 uur moet je ook niet teveel van verwachten. ;) -
